Taylor Swift Threw Some Subtle Shade at Scooter Braun During Her Prime Day Concert

At the end of last month, news broke that music manager Scooter Braun used his company, Ithaca Holdings, to acquire Taylor Swift‘s back catalog of music through its purchase of Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Label Group. (Big Machine Records was Swift’s musical home from 2006 to 2018, and all her records through Reputation are under it.) Swift expressed her outrage over this move on Tumblr, writing, “Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.” But she’s remained mum on the matter since then—until now.

Last night (July 10), Swift performed a few songs for Amazon’s Prime Day Concert, which also featured Dua Lipa, SZA, and Becky G, and some fans think she threw shade at Braun during her set. The incident in question happened as Swift was performing “Shake It Off”: When she reached the bridge of the track, fans couldn’t help but notice how strongly she emphasized the words “liars” and “dirty dirty cheats.” Take a look for yourself, below:

The implication here is obvious: Swifties are convinced their queen is calling out Braun for being a “liar” and “dirty cheat.” These reactions basically speak for themselves.

Of course, this is just speculation—but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was true. Taylor Swift made it clear in her Tumblr post that Braun is not someone she’s fond of. In fact, she alleges he’s bullied her for years. She referenced the Kim Kardashian-Kanye West “Famous” debacle of 2016 as proof. (West is one of Braun’s clients.) If you recall, Swift said back then she didn’t approve of the phrase “that bitch” being used in reference to her during West’s song “Famous.” West and his wife, Kim Kardashian, refuted this. Then, months later, the rapper released a video for “Famous” that features a naked mannequin designed in Swift’s likeness.

“I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world. All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years,” she wrote. “Like when Kim Kardashian orchestrated an illegally recorded snippet of a phone call to be leaked and then Scooter got his two clients together to bully me online about it. Or when his client, Kanye West, organized a revenge porn music video which strips my body naked.”
